Leafcutter Bee Foraging

This colourful leafcutter video was kindly contributed by Erica Siegel of Queensland.

This video shows an Australian leafcutter bee collecting pollen from some flowers. Leafcutter bees and resin bees carry pollen back to their nest in an unusual way. They pack in onto arrays of thick bristles underneath their abdomen (or tail segment). If you look closely you can see the thick pad of pollen under the abdomen of this leaf cutter bee.
